Our Values

We shall promote the rule of law within the security community, and strengthen global security governance by contributing to security sector reform at regional and national levels. We shall  partner to improve prevention of Terrorism, AML, Cyber, Maritime, Border and CBRNE threats, and partner with like-minded organisations to share expertise and grow our influence.

Vision

We envision an integrated, more peaceful and secure Africa that is able to detect, prevent and respond to threats to its survival by 2063.

Mission

The mission of CSDS is to work with national, regional and global partners to improve the capacity of African states to prevent, detect and respond to internal and external threats for an integrated, more peaceful and secure Africa by 2063.

ABOUT CSDS AFRICA

The Center for Strategic and Defense Studies, Africa (CSDS Africa) is a security-focused organization. CSDS Africa partners with national governments and regional organizations to advance rule of law and improve cyber, maritime and border security in Africa.

CSDS’s programming is oriented towards research, advocacy and technical training which lead to the development of sound national action plans, strategies, legal instruments, policy guides and best practices to confront emerging threats and their integration into regional and global policy, and vis-versa.

We have access to over 80 highly respected academics, industry and governance leaders who possess skills comparable to the best anywhere in the world.

  • History

    Center for Strategic and Defence Studies (CSDS) was incorporated on the 9th Day of November, 2006 as the Institute of Risk Management (IRM). Headquartered in the bustling city of Accra, IRM was in 2016 renamed CSDS. CSDS is one of the few organizations in the world dedicated to the study of security risk management in its broadest sense.

    CSDS is advised by a governing board with diverse experience and expertise.

    Ms. Esther Appiah

    Esther was Director of the Women and Juvenile Unit of the Ghana Police Service, and previous to that Head of the Special Investigations Unit, Fraud Unit and Homicide Unit of the Ghana Police Service among several others. ..Full List Here
